On Sunday 26th November, 2023 the society will organize a Philatelic Tour with philatelists and students of different schools where they will visit the Historical and Heritage Buildings of Prayagraj through a guided tour on their bicycle. The tour is proposed to begin from the Kutchery Post Office at 7:30 a.m. and pass through different historical and heritage monuments of Prayagraj and end at the Head Post Office, Prayagraj by 9:00 a.m.
The tour on bicycle will begin from the Kutchery Post Office and will pass through the University of Allahabad, Anand/Swaraj Bhawan, Chandrashekhar Azad Park, Allahabad Museum, Allahabad High Court and Allahabad Bank to end at the Head Post Office, Civil Lines, Prayagraj. These historical and heritage monuments and buildings at Prayagraj have been commemorated by the Department of Posts by way of release of philatelic articles on them in the past. The students will halt briefly at these historical and heritage buildings and they will be appraised about them.
It is anticipated that students from different schools will participate in this unique and informative tour on bicycle. The objective of the tour is to create awareness among the students about the historical and heritage buildings of Prayagraj and relate them through the philatelic releases in the past by the Department of Posts. We hope that through this tour the students will be motivated and encouraged to join stamp collecting as a hobby.
Stamp Collecting is a hobby which is educative and interesting for the students and young enthusiasts. Stamp collecting not only increases general knowledge, but enhances current affairs. The hobby of stamp collecting is a source of information and knowledge which is helpful in our day to day life and for competitive exams. It enriches ones personality and keeps the mind balanced of stress.
This informative tour blended with the use of cycle to reach the different heritage/historical site, is an effort to gain knowledge in a relaxed manner and enjoy the company of fellow collectors and students.
The Department of Posts, through the Senior Supdt. Of Post Offices and the Senior Postmaster, Head Post Office, Prayagraj has been kind to consider the proposal and grant consent to host the event. A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to all the participants at the Head Post Office, Prayagraj after the event is over on the same day.
Prayag Philatelic Society, a registered philatelic society which is affiliated to the Philatelic Congress of India, since its existence in July 2017, has been organising activities to promote philately through exhibitions, workshops and release of special covers and picture postcards of regional importance from different parts of India. It has members from almost all the states of Bharat and are actively participating in the regular activities of the society. In order to create awareness among the students, the society has planned to visit different schools to set up hobby clubs and inculcate the habit of developing a hobby for them, preferably stamp collecting.

The student has to participate with his own bicycle. There is no entry free and the event is not a competition. The Parents may drop their child with the bicycle at the Kutchery Post Office and pick them up from the Head Post Office, Civil Lines, Prayagraj after the event is over. Dress code is casual. Duration of the event is from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Consent of the parent for participation of their ward is compulsory.
Participation is limited to 20 students preferable from classes 8 to 12. A whatsapp group has been created for the events of the society, those willing to join the group are requested to contact us through Whatsapp at 9415214897 and we will include them in the group. This group is used for dissemination of information regarding events of the society and is meant solely for communications.
