A special cover and cancellation was released from GPO Lucknow on 11.12.2021 to commemorate the birth centenary year of Satyajit Ray 1921 to 2021.
The special cover was released by Shri. Vivek Kumar Daksh, Postmaster General Lucknow Headquarter Region, Shri. K.S.Bajpai, Chief Postmaster, Lucknow GPO, Shri. Ashok Kumar, President of Lucknow Philatelic Society, Shri. Dinesh Sharma member of Prayag Philatelic Society and the Secretary.
In the year 1977, a movie was directed and produced by Shri. Satyajit Ray at Lucknow – Shatranj Ke Khilari and this was the only hindi movie produced by Shri. Ray in his lifetime. Through this cover, the society pays its rich tribute to the legend of Cinema – Satyajit Ray.

This cover is dedicated to Late Col Jayanta Dutta, who ignited the idea of release of special cover from Lucknow on Satyajit Ray on his movie to pay tribute to Shri.Ray during the ongoing celebrations of his birth centenary year.
